The historic Man Mo Temple (free entry) on Fu Shin Street is the most interesting temple to visit in Tai Po. Buit in 1891 near the old Tai Po marketplace, the temple is dedicated to the God of Literature (Man) and the God of War (Mo). This this was a centre of administration, worship and economic activity for local villagers for many decades.
Man Mo temple in Tai Po was restored in 1985, after having been recognised as a historical monument in Hong Kong 1984 and remains in very good viewing condition if you want to visit today.
There is nice courtyard just in front of the temple entrance. the exterior includes colourful mural scenes above the door as well. This is nice to see. Within the temple, youll see another centre patio area, traditional shrines of worship
Outside of the temple, youll find colourful mural scenes above the door. Within the temple, there is a small open courtyard, traditional shrine a neat collection deity figures and traditional incense coils typical of Chinese temples.
In the end, this is a neat temple to stop by and visit if you plan to spend time in Tai Po visiting area attractions like the local market or the Hong Kong Railway Museum.
大埔舊墟火車站旁的文武廟始建於1891年,在1984年被列為法定古蹟,然後復修。在不是假期的日子,廟內依然香火鼎盛。從外型看,這是客家式兩進建築,有典型的凹斗門、四水歸堂庭院、檐下客家壁畫特徵,只是沒有採用哭、笑瓦頂。據說這裡也是以前鄉事中心,廟前仍保留老商業街,是幢仍有生命力的古蹟。
